Israeli forces fired smoke bombs at a Lebanese army patrol, violating what is known as the withdrawal line in the Bastra area, the Lebanese army said in a statement on Saturday.
The statement said that the army patrol was accompanying a bulldozer removing an earthen berm erected by the Israeli enemy north of the withdrawal line.
“The Lebanese patrol responded to the attack by firing tear bombs...forcing them to withdraw to the occupied Palestinian territories,” it added.
Tensions have been running high at the border between Lebanon and the Israeli occupied territories in recent months as the Israeli regime has been building a wall made of concrete blocks along part of the withdrawal line.
Also called the Blue Line, the withdrawal line was established by the United Nations on June 7, 2000 to determine whether the Israeli forces had fully withdrawn from southern Lebanon after 20 years of occupation.
